SWAROVSKI FASHION ROCKS - BACKSTAGE
SWAROVSKI FASHION ROCKS FOR THE PRINCE’S TRUST 2007 A ROCKING STAR-STUDDED SUCCESS
As expected, Swarovski Fashion Rocks for the Prince’s Trust, held in London at The Royal Albert Hall on October 18th proved to be the starriest of nights,
bringing together, in one stupendous show, the leading lights, and legends, of the worlds of music and fashion.
London was truly rocking on October 18th, when Swarovski, the world’s largest producer of cut crystal for fashion, was proud to support Swarovski Fashion Rocks for The Prince’s Trust, for the second time, welcoming this dynamic event back to London, the home of creativity in music, art, design and fashion. Once again, this proved to be the perfect partnership, as Swarovski celebrated this unique collaboration of music and fashion, echoing its own 100 year heritage of working hand in hand with the leading talents in the worlds of both couture and entertainment.
The entire evening was alive with the star-quality of Swarovski crystal itself. The red carpet sparkled with scattered crystals, while the spellbinding stage set was centred with a 26 foot high, two ton chandelier, which lifted dramatically to reveal each artist in turn. The startling image by world-renowned photographer Nick Knight, showing Naomi Campbell wearing crystallized headphones, designed by Donna D’Cruz for the Swarovski Fashion Rocks collection, hovered over the entire event.
SWAROVSKI FASHION ROCKS: THE SHOW
This year’s Swarovski Fashion Rocks, as always the hottest ticket in town, turned out to be more brilliantly glittering and star-studded than ever. There was a palpable buzz of excitement and anticipation, as the presenters, Hollywood giants, Uma Thurman, in a sheer black crystal strewn Valentino gown, and Samuel L. Jackson, who was to change designer outfits throughout the show, appeared high up on a theatrical crystal balcony, ready to host the evening’s breathtaking line up of top music talent paired with the most illustrious fashion names on the planet.
THE LINE UP:
Alicia Keys for Armani
Razorlight for Burberry
Joss Stone for Calvin Klein
Lily Allen for Chanel;
Beth Ditto and The Gossip for Christopher Kane
Timbaland for Dolce & Gabbana
Roisin Murphy for Gucci
Dame Shirley Bassey for Marchesa
Shy Child for Stella McCartney
Nicole Scherzinger for Valentino

There were even more secrets and surprises in store throughout the dazzling evening. Guest presenters included Naomi Watts, Claudia Schiffer, and Dame Edna Everage who held court at The Royal Albert Hall in her inimitable fashion, and praised the work of The Prince’s Trust. Oscar winner and Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow appeared on stage to surprise the famed couturier Valentino with a lifetime achievement award celebrating his forty-five years in the spotlight of fashion. The award was a giant crystal engraved with the words ‘Swarovski Fashion Rock Star’. The stature of the event was confirmed by the presence, on stage of fashion’s brightest stars, including Giorgio Armani himself and Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Music legend, Whitney Houston, whose presence had been kept a closely guarded secret, made a spectacular entrance, to introduce the finale, dedicated to the sponsors Swarovski, in which the Sugababes, surrounded by crystal-smothered dancers, and wearing the the Swarovski Fashion Rocks jewellery collection, performed in a special stage set scintillating with Swarovski crystals. The glorious evening was crowned with a surprise guest appearance by Patti Labelle, joining the Sugababes to sing Lady Marmalade from Moulin Rouge.
The stars and celebrities were out in force for this glamorous event, helping to support the valuable work of The Prince’s Trust in rehabilitating and nurturing young disadvantaged people in the UK. On the sparkling red carpet were Heather Graham, Tom Ford, Donatella Versace, Jefferson Hack, Sienna Miller, Naomi Campbell, Princess Beatrice, Elton John and Kate Moss who wore her shimmering flapper style crystal encrusted dress, created specially for Swarovski Fashion Rocks by Topshop. The dress will be auctioned in aid of The Prince’s Trust.
SWAROVSKI FASHION ROCKS COLLECTION
To capture the Swarovski Fashion Rocks edge, and celebrate its unique fusion of the arts of music and fashion, Swarovski approached a select group of quintessential rock n’ roll designers to come up with an exclusive capsule collection of crystalsmothered jewellery and accessories. Rock star jeweller, Stephen Webster has made an ‘Ace of Spades’ pendant, using a chandelier drop, encrusted with a spray of black and white cubic zirconia stones. Meteoric rising star, fashion designer Christopher Kane, whose first show this year at Swarovski Fashion Rocks is fully supported by Swarovski, has created a vibrant ‘Purple Rock’ version of his famous bolster necklace, of purple velvet covered in graduated shades of amethyst crystal. Legendary punk-rock jeweller, Tom Binns, has made a ‘High-Rise’ cuff, inspired by downtown city architecture, and hip New York DJ, Donna D’Cruz has completely crystallised her professional ‘Rasa Rocks headphones’, covering them in shimmering amethyst crystals. Swarovski enters into the spirit of Fashion Rocks, by creating three mega-statement jewels, rocking with crystal style: ‘Blondie’, a black lacquered satin roll choker, with pave crystal clasp, draped with fifteen strands of jet crystal mesh; a matching monumentally sized ring of silver studded at random with sharp jet crystals; and ‘Nico’, a crystal jet chain from which swings a massive medallion, made in pointiage, Swarovski’s exclusive technique for encrusting with crystals.
DIVINE ROCKS
Forever associated with rock star glamour, Versace commemorates Swarovski Fashion Rocks with the launch of a new and exclusive crystal stone, specially designed and precision-cut by Swarovski working hand in hand with Donatella Versace. The stunning new stone, named Divine Rock, a glimmering silky lemon colour, cut into a contemporary asymmetric shape, also pays homage to Swarovski’s history of creating spectacular, bespoke crystal stones for the world of couture.
